Project JALANIDHI Back
Watershed Project, Bundelkhand

In 2010, the Foundation for Rural Recovery & Development (FORRAD), approached Anandana to consider granting a watershed project in two villages of Kabrai and Charkhari blocks of Mahoba district, Bundelkhand. The region, Mahoba in particular, has been worst hit due to lack of rainfall resulting in severe drought. Anandana, in its efforts to further expand its initiatives in the location, approved the project that has been successfully completed.

Initiatives:
  • Construction of 6 check dams
  • Farm bunding for 202 farmers over 275 ha of land
  • Construction of 2 rain water harvesting structures in the schools
  • Renovation of 8 farm ponds
  • Desilting and cleaning of 23 wells on the watershed site
Impact:
  • Created a storage capacity of 56 million litres of water in the water parched location
  • Over 6000 villagers benefitted
  • Land productivity has gone up by at least 25 per cent
  • The income level of the farmers has increased considerably to between Rs.10,000 – Rs 15,000 per acre
