Provision of potable water, Rajasthan

With a view to address the issue of lack of safe drinking water around the Sambharlake region (salt lake) due to saline water, a pilot project was carried out with the help of the Foundation for Rural Recovery & Development (FORRAD) and MANTHAN, a local NGO.

Initiatives:
  • Installation of an RO unit, fabricated by the Central Salt and Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSMCRI) in five villages of the region.
  • Used solar energy to power the installed units
Impact:
  • Each unit has a capacity to produce 7000 litres of water per day
  • Decrease in salt content from 8000 part/million to 500
  • 5000 villagers benefitted
