Solar Lighting Project, Rajasthan & Bihar
This project, implemented by the Social Action for Rural Advancement (SARA), demonstrated as to how a community based approach to tap solar energy could enhance the quality of life in remote villages of Rajasthan and Bihar, with no access to grid electricity.
Initiative:
- Provision of training to 20 women on fabrication of solar units and solar lanterns
- 1000 solar units were fabricated by these women for installation of 800 units in Rajasthan and 200 in Bodh Gaya, Bihar
- Set up 20 workshops for repair and maintenance
Impact:
- 1000 households in 20 villages of 6 districts of Rajasthan and Bihar have been solar electrified by 20 barefoot solar engineers
- 10,000 villagers benefitted
