PROJECT AKSHAY URJA Back
A solar energy project

The Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR) and its adjoining forest divisions are famous for being one of India’s best-protected habitats for tigers. However, the villages around CTR have been facing irregular and erratic supply of grid electricity. In such cases, the overall quality of life is severely affected. Burning of fossil fuels affect the health of people and darkness prevents people to lead a secure life.

The Corbett Foundation in partnership with the Coca-Cola India Foundation implemented a solar energy project covering 62 villages - 3 villages of Almora; 28 villages of Nainital and 31 villages of Pauri districts of Uttarakhand

Initiative:
  • Installation of solar-powered lanterns
  • Provision of training to 50 women on repair and maintenance of lanterns
Impact:
  • Impact on various aspects of life leading to improvement in the quality of living.
  • 50 women have been trained on maintenance and repair of lantern
  • Over 16,250 villagers benefitted from around 2500 households
