Water Sustainability Project, Bundelkhand

In 2010, the first phase of the project of the Foundation was successfully executed by HARITIKA, Chattarpur, Bundelkhand, to construct four checkdams in three villages of Jaitpur block, district Mahoba, Bundelkhand that helped replenish ground water

By December 2013, with the support of Anandana, the NGO has implemented additional two projects to expand to 14 villages located in the district.

Similarly, in another initiative, the NGO identified two villages in Bijawar Block of district Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh to implement an integrated village project that included construction of a checkdam, an earthern pond, distribution of solar lanterns to each household, installation of street lights, construction of a village road, school sanitation block and orchard development. For ensuring integrated development in the villages, HARITIKA also mobilized other partners such as Just a Drop, Aqua Life, UK; and NABARD for providing drinking water and training on livelihood opportunities.

Initiatives:
  • Construction of 42 water conservation structures
  • Provision of household water to 14 villages
Impact:
  • Created a storage capacityof 745 million liters
  • Over 12000 villagers benefitted
